Rab and his wife arrived in Scotland in August 2003, where he enrolled to study mechatronic engineering in Edinburgh Napier University. While studying he had various jobs but nothing he really enjoyed. This is when he found a gap in the market for repairing and unlocking mobile phones as well as selling accessories. Fone Unlocker began for us in 2004, as a small kiosk unit in Callendar Square on the top floor, with nothing but a computer and a display cabinet. It started out as a family business, with its first expansion in 2010, moving down a level in the same shopping centre but into a unit twice the size.

We delved into more complex repairs including computers and gaming consoles and more accessories for a wider range of devices to fill the space. In 2018 we felt we had outgrown ourselves yet again, so we moved into an even larger unit in the shopping centre, growing our staff base as well as our square footage. It was at this point we made a big move. We opened a new store in Grangemouth in 2019, our first time out of the shopping centre and into the towns. Also broadening our products once again to add smoking and vaping accessories.

As COVID came to a head in early 2020, our original store had to close due to restrictions on shopping centres, but without haste we opened another new store in Linlithgow to fill its boots, our furthest afield store so far. Mid 2020, we re-opened our Falkirk store in Kirk Wynd, which is now our main flagship store. In 2024, we celebrated Fone Unlocker’s 20th anniversary and are proud of our growing footprint, with a new store having opened in Grangemouth at the same time.

We’re still a family business at heart with 16 hardworking members of staff, with countless years of experience between them.
